Nice. thanks for the details. I'm finally into the stone veneer phase and am about completed (will post an updated photo). Roof was the last "design" item to tackle so your notes are much appreciated!

Thanks for the compliment.  I posted another picture to give you an idea of what the roof looked like during construction.

 

I cut steel 2x4s and screwed them into the insides of the cinder blocks, then cut rafters to form the grid.  Added 1/2 inch durarock to cover the entire area to the edges and up to the chimney.  Used fiberglass mesh tape and thinset to seal the durarock seams.  The red you see in the picture is a thick coating of RedGard water proofing.  Then a layer of stone and grout and sealed it with stone and grout waterproofing.

 

The roof was built to slope down from the chimney to the back and from the middle to the sides to help keep water from standing on top.
