I was using a chunk of 2 X 12 with a SS plate screwed to the inside. I will post a before picture soon. It is really charred too.

Looks Great. Right now I only have a piece of 3/4" plywood wrapped in heavy duty aluminium foil. I replaced the foil and noticed that the inside portion of the door is charred but no fires yet. I only use the door after the ashes have been raked out. I have a door design running around in my mind but haven't built it yet. I have seen doors insulated with vermiculite. I have a small piece of 2" spun ceramic blanket left over that I think will be my insulation. Thanks for posting the picture

My cousin made it for me to replace my wood door. I've been going through too many wood doors. He used a semi-burnt door as a pattern for me. I plan on insulating it with some form of flexible or casting material. I used stove polish to blacken the surface. It gives a nice patina and I hope keep it from rusting. I don't keep it outside when not using it.

BIll,
Nice door. Is it insulated? Did you make it?
